Cecilia Vega-Ryan
I am a Cuban American writer and educator. My debut author-published picture book is a biography, “Flyboy!” My stories are about family, perseverance, and believing, sprinkled with some humor. I write picture books and have a middle grade and YA novel on the horizon. My stories are quirky, and several have themes around nature, since one of my passions is environmentalism.
I have been writing since I was a young child. I recall my sixth-grade teacher requesting copies of my stories from class. I have always loved reading, movies, and plays and being swept up in the story. As a Child Development Professor, I have worked with teachers and children for several years. So, I know children have a great sense of wonder and enjoy laughing. I have done children’s theatre and been a storyteller at my local botanical garden. I want my stories to bring a smile to every child and something new to ponder.
I began writing picture books right before graduate school, then put them aside. A few years ago, writing came calling, and the stories needed to be shared; so I dove in. I reside on the Central Coast of California surrounded by microclimates of varied terrain. Being surrounded by different animals domesticated and wild is a gift that I appreciate every day. My milieu is my muse.
I believe in putting humorous and sweet stories into the world to whisk away young children and capture their imagination.
