Author Visit: Cecilia Vega‑Ryan — Classroom or Library Reading and Activity

Overview Cecilia Vega‑Ryan visits your classroom or library to read one of her picture books, share the story’s background, and lead a related hands‑on activity that reinforces literacy, creativity and fun. The visit is flexible for 2nd grade through 5th grade and can be adapted for larger groups.

Visit length

  • Virtual about 30 minutes: Read-aloud + brief Q&A $50

  • 40 minutes: Read-aloud + discussion with Q&A + short activity. $100

  • 75 minutes: Read-aloud + power point extras + Q&A + activity. $200

Structure (example for a 40-minute visit)

  1. Welcome & introduction (3–5 minutes)

    • Cecilia greets students, introduces herself, and talks about her story

  2. Read‑aloud (10–15 minutes)

    • Lively reading of one picture book with expressive voice, pages shown to the group, occasional interactive questions.

  3. Story talk with Q&A (5–10 minutes)

    • Brief discussion about characters, themes, and inspiration behind the story. Age‑appropriate questions to build comprehension and critical thinking.

  4. Activity (15–20 minutes)

    • Hands‑on activity tied to the book’s theme (examples below). Cecilia guides the activity with clear steps and models one or two examples.

Sample Activities

  • Short Activity: Make paper airplanes. (works better with small group)

  • Quick Writing/Art Prompt (2nd–5th): Short, guided prompt related to the book “What’s Your Dream?” With a few volunteer shares. (can be done with small & large group)

Booking & Fees

  • Visits are scheduled in advance.

  • Fees vary by visit length, travel, and number of sessions per day. Multiple visits or back‑to‑back classroom sessions may have discounted rates. Make sure you specify how long and/or how many. It can be negotiated.

  • For school visits, please provide preferred dates/times, grade level(s), expected number of students, and/or language needs.

Outcomes Students leave with stronger listening comprehension, new vocabulary, some history information, and practical activities that nurture creativity, fine motor skills and self reflection. Teachers can extend social studies / history information according to curriculum standards.
